Helen Heitshusen, 89

Celebration of life service for Helen M. Heitshusen, 89, Williamsburg, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. She died Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

The Rev. Stuart Rethwisch officiated at the service.

Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Lutheran Interparish School.

Helen Matilda Heitshusen was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Iowa Township, Iowa County, the daughter of Egon and Margaret (Witte) Schwarting. She was baptized Aug. 25, 1925, and confirmed March 17, 1940, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School.

She married Robert George Heitshusen June 1, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong resident of the Williamsburg area, living on a farm northeast of Williamsburg until moving to town in 2008.

She enjoyed playing cards, reading large print and flowers. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Heitshusen is survived by one son, Thomas (Jackie) Heitshusen, Williamsburg; one daughter, Barbara Heitshusen, Flandreau, S.D.; one granddaughter, Marie Chanell; three great-grandchildren, Harmony, Alicia and Alexis Griggs, and one sister-in-law, Helen Schwarting, Williamsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one grandson, Glen Heitshusen, and three brothers, Orville, Oren and Harold Schwarting.
