Stanley Lown, 88

Celebration of life service for Stanley L. Lown, 88, South English, was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Powell Funeral Home, North English. He died Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the English Valley Care Center, North English.

The Rev. Luke Caster officiated at the service.

Burial was in the North English Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the North English Christian Church or the North English QRS.

Stanley Lee Lown was born June 7, 1927, near North English, the son of Thomas and Ila (Johnston) Lown. He graduated from North English High School and served in the U.S. Marines during World War II.

He married Bevaline Stewart Feb. 12, 1949, at the Christian Church parsonage in North English. He was a lifelong resident and farmer in the North English area.

He was a member of the Christian Church and served on the Union Country School Board, Keokuk County Farm Bureau Board, Keokuk County Pork and Beef Boards, Ross T. Hadley American Legion Post 488 and North English Scout, Creamery, School and Telephone Boards. He enjoyed playing cards and dancing and was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan.

Lown is survived by his wife, Bev, South English; three sons, Randy, Mount Pleasant, Wis.; Ron (Kendra), Walford, and Rick, Iowa City; six grandchildren, Brian (Natasha) Lown, Jaime (Jerome) Young, Ryann (Alex) Lehnertz, Ashley (Mike) Cauliflower, Bradley (Courtney) Lown and Breanne Lown; nine great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Cathi Lown, Roseville, Calif.; one brother, Larry (Margaret) Lown, North English, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Roger; one brother, Melvin, and one sister, Frances.
