Norman E. Jordan was born Oct. 3, 1933, the son of Orren Everett and Mildred [Allen] Jordan, at home in rural Deep River. He attended a one room country school there for his first eight years. An older sister, Miriam, taught the last two of those years. The eighth grade and high school were at Millersburg.

He served in the Army in Berlin, Germany, from 1954 to 1956.

He graduated from Colorado State University in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in vocational agriculture.

In 1958, he married Delores Peterson. After graduating from Colorado State University, the Jordans lived in Evergreen, Colo., and worked at a treatment center for emotionally disturbed boys. In 1961, they formed one of the first Peace Corps groups and served in West Pakistan for two years. Their first son, David, was born in Rawalpindi, West Pakistan, in 1962.

The couple returned to Iowa to take over the family farm in 1963. They farmed until 1977, when they moved to Bellvue, Colo. In 1979, they bought a commercial greenhouse and for a number of years, raised just roses. It was later sold to their son, Warren.

Norman’s life was characterized by faith, family and friends. He was a man of prayer. He loved life and he loved people. He made friends wherever he went and treasured each one. He had a great sense of humor and added laughter to all situations. He enjoyed outdoor activities, reading and was an excellent wood carver.

Jordan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Delores; sons, David (Marjorie) and Terry (Karmen); daughter-in-law, Beth; grandchildren, Jessica, Jason, Jonathan, Jenna, Jack, Tyler, Ty and Alex; great-grandson, Bradley, and sister, Miriam Sutton, Centennial, Colo.
