Laurence R. Bine, 81, Marengo, died Monday, June 29, 2015, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo.

Memorials may be made to the Iowa State Church of God Conference.

Laurence Roland Bine was born June 23, 1934, in Beaman, the son of Wesley and Aura Bute Bein. He graduated from Beaman High School and attended DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, Ill., where he received certification in electronics. He served his country with the U.S. Army for two years.

He married Sandra Reinhard June 17, 1956, in Gladbrook. He worked for Collins Radio, Cedar Rapids, until 1972, then moved to Marengo and farmed until retiring in 1979.

He filled his time driving school bus and traveling with Sandra. He enjoyed playing cards, camping, boating, target shooting and long discussions on politics and religion.

Bine is survived by his children, Laurie Madoerin (Dennis O’Donnell), Marengo; Diane (Dave) Shawver, West Branch, and Daniel (Theresa) Bine, Marengo; seven grandchildren, Shelby (Brad) Dains, Sarah Madoerin, Jacob Madoerin, Logan Bine, Amelia Shawver, Jessica Bine and Matthew Shawver; three great-grandchildren, Kaylin, Avery and Stella Dains, and one brother, Arthur (Louise) Bine, Beaman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra, in 2009; his parents; one son, Jeffrey, and one brother, Paul.
