Carl Evans, 83

Celebration of life memorial service for Carl D. Evans, 83, Williamsburg, was held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Williamsburg. He was released from Alzheimer’s Disease Monday, May 18, 2015, at the memory care unit of Solon Retirement Village.

Memorials have been established for Iowa City Hospice or Solon Retirement Village Foundation.

Carl David Evans was born June 3, 1931, near Williamsburg, the son of Frank Howard and Clara Henrietta (Goss) Evans. He attended a country school and was taught by Mary Welsh before she became the principal of Williamsburg Elementary School. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1950.

He married Patricia Anne Chandler April 22, 1950, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. They made their home in Williamsburg, rasing their children and enjoying family and friends.

In his youth, he helped with chores on the family farm until he began working at the Ford Garage as a mechanic during his high school years. After working at the Ford garage for a number of years, he began selling automotive products for Coffman Sales. A year later, he went on to form his own business, Evans Sales Company, building it up to the point where he employed a number of salesmen before selling the business in 2011.

Evans is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Richard) Bohrn, Iowa City; three sons, Richard (Julie) Evans and Robert Evans, all Williamsburg, and Paul (Amy) Evans, Cedar Park, Texas; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Murray (Lynn) Evans, Williamsburg, and two sisters, Ruth Baker, Arizona, and Gladys Beasley, Marengo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; his parents; one son, Stephen; two grandsons, Calvin and Chad Evans; one brother, Edward, and two sisters, Evelyn Griffin and Lucille Raasch.
