Gilbert Roemig, 91

Funeral service for Gilbert Roemig, 91, Middle Amana, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Colonial Manor of Amana.

The Rev. Larry Dollmeyer officiated at the service.

Burial was in the West Amana Cemetery with military honors by Marengo American Legion Post 76 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to Essence of Life Hospice or Colonial Manor of Amana.

Gilbert Roemig was born Dec. 26, 1923, in Middle Amana, the son of Theodore and Frieda Kraus Roemig. He attended the Amana schools and entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1945 to 1948, stationed in Germany and Italy. His employment over the years spanned Kraus Equipment, the Amana Woolen Mill and mostly, as a custodian for the Amana schools.

He married Mary Lou Ehrmann May 30, 1981, at the New Apostolic Church, Cedar Rapids. The couple lived in Middle Amana.

He was a member of American Legion Post 76 and the New Apostolic Church, Cedar Rapids.

Roemig is survived by one brother, Theodore “Junior” (Jane), St. Louis, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Sandra (Curt) Ludovissy, Amana; one nephew, Jason (Jewel) Ludovissy, Amana, and their daughter, Gisele, and two nieces, Linda McAlister and Teri Smith, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lou, April 8, 2011, and one brother, Ralph, and his wife, Pauline.
