Charles Alford, 63

Funeral service for Charles E. Alford, 63, Marengo, was held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 27, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Marengo Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. Eddie Thomas officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Charles Everett Alford was born Feb. 20, 1952, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Arthur and Nanny Stepp Alford.

He and Janice Duncan Alford were married for 43 years. He was employed as a roofer and a handyman of various trades. He enjoyed cookouts with the family, camping, fishing, motorcycles, classic cars and beer time.

Alford is survived by his wife, Janice; four children, Jeannie (Alfonso) Varela and Shirley (Robert) Arends, all Marengo; Theresa Alford, Minneapolis, Minn., and Charles (Angel) Alford, Marengo; 16 grandchildren, Robert (Becca) Ritter, Joshua Ritter, Melanie Ritter, Michelle Huston, Christopher Rose, Nickole Ritter, Destiney Huston, Sarah Rose, Samantha Rose, Charles Alford Jr., Andrea Huston, Natalie Huston, Zoe Alford, Myia Alford, Gia Alford and Ricardo Malagon and 11 great-grandchildren, Landyn Varela, Lachlan Ritter, Aydan Varela, Channing Alford, Jason Ritter, Brylee Stidham, Jaxon Aubrecht, Presliegh Moyer, Destinee Ritter, Cameron Brenneman and David Ritter; siblings, Jimmalee (Brenda) Todd, Des Moines; Donnie (Chris) Alford, Des Moines; Shirley (Vernon) Stepp, Kentucky; Lillie Alford, Kentucky, and Ronnie Alford, Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Brandy; two brothers, Jerry and Earl, and one sister, Betty.
