Karen Fordyce, 71

Funeral service for Karen A. Fordyce, 71, Mt. Vernon, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at the United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon. She passed away peacefully at home Monday morning, April 13, 2015.

The Rev. Becky High and the Rev. Dr. William Daylong officiated at the service.

Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

Karen Ann Fordyce was born June 14, 1943, in Iowa City, the daughter of Le Roy Walter and Lois Tompkins Walter Wallace. She graduated from Williamsburg High School and the University College of Cosmetology, Iowa City.

She married Edward Fordyce Feb. 6, 1965. Her faith in Jesus Christ and her family were the most valued gifts in her life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon, where she was active in the Women’s Bible Study, and the Women of Words Book Club and was a past member of the New Century Club.

Fordyce is survived by her husband, Edward; daughters, Lorrie (Brad) Dahlman, Apple Valley, Minn.; Shelly (Adam) Brinkmann, Burnsville, Minn., and Emily (Eric) Joldersma, Hudsonville, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Erik, Benjamin and Lidia Dahlman, Andrew, Peter, Luke, Emma and Adeline Brinkmann, Jack, Eva, Maislin and Van Joldersma; her mother, Lois Wallace, Williamsburg; one sister, Karol (Edward) Lacher, Williamsburg; three brothers, Larry Walter, North English; Dale (Pamela) Walter, Williamsburg, and James Mark Wallace, Amana; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a brother-in-law, Richard Fordyce.

She was preceded in death by her father and one nephew, Michael Walter.
