Larry Slaymaker, 72

Funeral service for Larry W. Slaymaker, 72, Cedar Rapids, was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, Cedar Rapids. He died Sunday, May 18, 2014, at his home.

The Rev. Jeff Bell, Westdale Community Church, officiated at the service.

Burial was in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Larry Walter Slaymaker was born March 13, 1942, in Iowa City, the son of Walter and Melvay (Estridge) Slaymaker. He and Lila Osborne met in April of 1977 and were married in April of 1984 in Cedar Rapids.

He worked for Iowa Steel, Harnischfeger, Cedar Rapids INC, and retired from Nelson Trucking in 2013.

He was a quiet, hardworking husband and father. He was quite the handyman and was able to fix anything.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Slaymaker is survived by his wife, Lila L. Slaymaker; two daughters, Sara J. (Scotty) Slaymaker, Cedar Rapids, and Shelly (Jeffrey) Schrupp, Mount Pleasant, S.C.; his siblings, Janey (Jim) Polesky, Ohio; Brian (Elaine) Slaymaker, Marengo; Norman (Cindy) Slaymaker, Williamsburg, and Roy (Linda) Slaymaker, Ottumwa, and a granddaughter, Ellie Schrupp, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Peyton Anthony Hill.
