Sharon Kaschmitter, 73

Memorial service for Sharon S. Kaschmitter, 73, North Liberty, will be held at 2 p.m. May 30 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, North Liberty, with visitation prior to the service at 12:30 p.m. She died April 9, 2014, surrounded by family. Her death was due to a traumatic head injury caused by a fall.

Memorials may be made to Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure, the American Heart Association, Gentiva Hospice or Alzheimer’s Association of East Central Iowa.

Sharon Sue Kaschmitter was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Williamsburg, the daughter of Laurence and Marjorie [Frick] Roehrkasse.

She was raised in Williamsburg and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1958. She attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing where she received her RN degree and then attended Coe College where she received her her BSN degree. She also completed graduate work at the University of Iowa.

She married Matthew Kaschmitter Nov. 30, 1963, and they shared 50 vibrant years together.

She devoted her life to family, friends and her nursing profession; hospitals, schools and research. She loved to tandem bike, play pickle ball, hike, garden and cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes. She loved Iowa and was a strong advocate for women’s health.

She volunteered with many non-profit organizations and was an active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, North Liberty.

Kaschmitter is survived by her husband, Matthew; her children, Lisa (Randy) Vogel and Mark (Bronda) Kaschmitter; grandchildren, Luke and Elizabeth Kaschmitter; brothers, Larry (Karol) Roehrkasse, John (Nancy) Roehrkasse, and Don (Ann) Roehrkasse.
