Harold Moffit, 78

Celebration of life service for Harold E. Moffit, 78, Central City, was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, North English. He died Monday, May 12, 2014, at Manor Care, Cedar Rapids.

Church elder Alan Trumpold officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Piersol Cemetery, rural North English.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Harold Elroy Moffit was born Feb. 19, 1936, near North English, the son of William and Bessie Simmons Moffit. He grew up and attended school in the Green Valley community. He served honorably in the U.S. Marines and Army, where he was an expert marksman. He loved to fish and hunt and was a Golden Gloves boxer in his younger years.

He married Judith J. Knipfer and they later divorced.

He married Delilah Trumpold Eichacker Sept. 13, 1980, in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Nissen Trampoline, Dearborn Brass and 20 years in Retail Data Systems in Cedar Rapids.

In his later years, he enjoyed gardening. He became a resident of Manor Care in August 2012. A special thank you to all of the nurses, aids and staff of Manor Care.

Moffit is survived by his wife, Delilah Moffit, Marion; one son, William Moffit, Fairfax; grandsons, Mack and Brayden Moffit; daughter-in-law, Annette Van Thournout, Parnell; sisters, Velda Schauff, Wellman; Ruby Mayes, DeSoto, Mo.; Mildred Walters, Tiffin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Roy Moffitt; brothers, Dean and Wayne Moffit; sisters, Emmagene Myers, Ida Herrick, Donna Perrin, Ruth Claypool and Arlene Swenson.
