Celebration of life service for Amanda L. Hook, 32, Williamsburg, was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. She died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, surrounded by her family at her grandparents’ home in Williamsburg after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

The Rev. Carl Cloeter officiated at the service. Organist was Karin Winwood and vocalist was Peggy Wardenburg. Musical selections included “How Great Thou Art” and “Heaven Is My Home.”

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg. Casket bearers were David Hook, Adam Hook, Kevin Stoner, Matthew Stoner, Cody Hartman and Duane Wiebold.

Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice and Systems Unlimited, Iowa City Chapter.

Amanda Lea Hook was born Dec. 26, 1981, in Maryville, Ill., the daughter of Thomas and Denise (Huedepohl) Hook. She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. From her arrival into the family, as a first grandchild, she was a center of focus to a doting family. After the loss of her father and later her mother and brother, the family became an even greater support.

Her greatest advocates of her freedom were her ever-present Grandma and Grandpa Hook. She graduated from West High School in Iowa City in 2000. She was employed at the Coralville Wal-Mart for 10 years and participated in the Special Olympics.

She thoroughly enjoyed her friends in the Lunch Bunch, the Iowa City Brain Injury Group and her house mates and staff at her Systems Unlimited residence.

Hook is survived by her grandparents, Robert and Joan Hook and Neva Norris, all Williamsburg; her aunts and uncles, Ardith (Kevin) Stoner, North Liberty, and David (Shari) Hook, Williamsburg; stepmother, Lori Hook, Iowa City; cousins, Ashley (Cody) Hartman, Matthew Stoner, Adam Hook and the very treasured Benjamin Hartman, and many special friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James Hook; two stillborn sisters, Candyce and Jennifer, and her grandfather, Robert Norris.
