James Paul Burry
October 23, 1915 - April 5, 2014

James Paul Burry, 98, of Glendale, California passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family. Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and parishioner of St. Francis Xavier in Burbank.

Jim was born October 23, 1915 on a farm just outside of Victor, Iowa to August L. and Mary A. (Murtha) Burry. In 1934, he graduated from St. John’s High School in Victor. Following graduation, Jim worked in Cedar Rapids, Iowa before jumping on his Harley and heading west. On his way to Alaska looking for better work, Jim landed in Southern California and decided to call it his home. He worked as a milkman and in the photo and print business in Los Angeles until his retirement at which point he dedicated himself to his real estate investments.

Jim is survived by his wife, Beatriz, his four children and their spouses, Tony Suarez (Lisa), Chuck Suarez (Florida), Rose Sorensen (Mike) and Armando Oliva, his 4 grandchildren, Alexandria and Zachary Sorensen, Jessica and Lindsey Suarez and his sisters, Margaret Ringler and Teresa Freshour.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 11:00am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Burbank officiated by Fr. Benny George, beloved extended family member.

James Burry, 98

James P. Burry, 98, Glendale, Calif., formerly of the Victor and Cedar Rapids area, died April 5, 2014. Funeral service was held April 10 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Burbank, with burial at a later date.

He graduated in 1934 from St. John parochial school, Victor.

He married Modene Stroud of St. Louis for 50 years. After her death, he married his beloved wife Beatriz.

He leaves three step-children, Arlando, Gary and Rose; two sisters, Margaret Ringler, Rock Island, and Teresa Freshour, Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis and Bernard Burry and Don Murtha.
