Walter Stanerson, 89

Memorial service for Walter A. Stanerson, 89, Conroy, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at First Lutheran Church, Conroy. He died Friday, March 21, 2014, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, following a lengthy illness.

The Rev. Don Dovre will officiate at the service.

Inurnment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends after 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at the church.

A memorial fund has been established.

Walter Alex Stanerson was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Conroy, the son of Staner and Helen Mae Groesbeck Stanerson. He attended and graduated from Hilton Consolidated School, Conroy, in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force for 18 months.

He married Mae Hellen Ollis Aug. 12, 1952, in Calcutta, Ohio. They made their home and raised their family in Conroy, where he co-owned and operated Stanerson Garage and Oil for many years.

He enjoyed woodworking and stained glass in his free time. He also liked music and was an avid Cubs fan. He was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church, Conroy.

Stanerson is survived by his daughters, Denise (Terry) Jones, Omaha, Neb.; Cheryl (Robert) Boyer, West Bend, Wis., and Vicki (Don) Cave, Omaha; six grandchildren, Aaron Jones (Melissa Moehring), Kali Jones, Hannah Boyer, Matthew Boyer, Justin Cave and Maggie Cave, and one great-granddaughter, Hadley Mae Jones.

He was preceded in death by his wife, April 10, 2001; his parents; two brothers, Ed and Art, and two sisters, Helen Overbaugh and Ethel Hartz.
