Rachel Gerard, 87

Funeral service for Rachel E. Gerard, 87, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She died April 2, 2014, at Marengo Memorial Hospital, Marengo.

The Rev. Andrew Gray officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Rachel Elizabeth Gerard was born April 19, 1926, in Blairstown, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Hofmaster Siems. She attended Benton County schools.

She married Russell Dean Gerard Nov. 18, 1949. She provided childcare for the families of the Marengo area for many years.

She had a great love for her family and cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo.

Gerard is survived by one son, Russell “Al” (Linda), Marengo; four daughters, Sherry Kouba (Jon Dale), Central City; Debbie (Rex) Saunders, Marengo; Becky Wiebold, Marengo, and Kris Gerard, Marengo; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oct. 24, 1982; her parents; two brothers, Noel and Carroll Siems; two sisters, Mildred Siems and Wilma Landuyt, and two grandsons, Blake Saunders and Spencer Kouba.
