Lorence Ackermann, 57

Funeral service for Lorence W. Ackermann, 57, Amana, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Amana Community Church. He chose to end his life of suffering and begin his new life in heaven on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at his home.

Church elder Jon Childers officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Amana Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Lorence William Ackerman was born Oct. 10, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Dorothy Lorenc Ackermann. He graduated from Amana High School in 1975 and attended Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids.

He married Lori Childers Sept. 30, 1978, in Amana. The couple later divorced.

He started his working career with Hertel 66 in Homestead. He then was employed at Kraus Manufacturing, Walford. Later, he worked at Sullivan Graphics in Marengo and lastly, he waas employed with Amana Furniture, Amana. In his youth, he was a member of the Boy Scouts.

Ackermann is survived by one son, Matt Ackermann (Whitney Alberhasky), Homestead; two daughters, Elizabeth (Eric) Draeger, Marion, and Kristin Ackermann (Josh Cuno), Homestead; a granddaughter, Jasmin Rose; his parents, William and Dorothy Ackermann, Amana; two sisters, Sandy (Jerry) Fetzer, Marion, and Deb (Phil) Weisskopf, Oxford; two nieces, Andrea (Jeremy) Dorn and Callista Weisskopf, and three nephews, Patrick Fetzer, Zachary Fetzer and Josh Weisskopf.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and two nieces, Heather and Micah Weisskopf.
