Roger Johnston, 66

Funeral service for Roger Clark Johnston, 66, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at his home.

The Rev. Dean Sires officiated at the service.

Inurnment will be in Eddyille at a later date.

Roger Clark Johnston was born Aug. 15, 1947, in Oskaloosa, the son of Clark and Helen Norwood Johnston. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1965 and received his bachelor of arts degree in English from William Penn University, Oskaloosa, in 1969.

He taught at Mingo High School from 1971 to 1972. He returned to school and received his master’s degree in vocational rehab counseling from the University of Iowa in 1974.

He relocated to Marengo and taught English at Iowa Valley Schools from 1974 until his retirement in 2006.

He married Sandra Fletcher June 4, 1971, in Grinnell. The couple had one son, Fletcher. They later divorced.

He was an avid Harley Davidson fan and enjoyed judging at the annual antique bike show in Davenport every year. He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan as well as a St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was especially devoted to his nine shih tzu dogs.

Johnston is survived by his son, Fletcher Clark Johnston, Dallas, Texas; a grandson, Fletcher Clark Johnston II; siblings, V. Diane (Dean) Sires, Ringgold, Ga.; W. Kelly (Cindy) Johnston, Odessa, Mo., and Becky (Monte) Moore, Oskaloosa, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
