PARNELL -- Mary Catherine Johnson, 71, of Parnell, died Wednesday evening, March 31, 2004, in Mercy Iowa City following an extended illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Parnell, by Father David Hitch. Burial: church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the church, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Arrangements with Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her husband, Leo; two sons, James D. of Omaha and William F. and wife Linda of Iowa City; a daughter, Margaret Safina and husband Vito of Parnell; four grandchildren, Tony, Michael, David and Mary Ann Safina; a great-grandson, Trevor Safina; and a brother, Daniel Sullivan and wife Dolores of Parnell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Eugene.
Mary Catherine Sullivan was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of John P. and Helen C. Donohoe Sullivan. She graduated from Parnell High School in 1951 and married Leo A. Johnson on Sept. 6, 1951, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Parnell. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Parnell and the Parnell American Legion Auxiliary.
