MARENGO -- Raymond R. Heitman, 70, of Marengo, died Friday, April 2, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo, by the Rev. Richard Schafbuch. Burial: Genoa Bluff Cemetery, rural Marengo. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.

A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; a son, Randy and wife Donna of Marengo; three daughters, Sheryl Schafbuch and husband James of Marengo, Diana Kloos and husband Ronald of Belle Plaine and Julie Droessler and husband Mark of Walford; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Alma Heitman of Marengo; a brother, Wayne of Marengo; and five sisters, Joan Hunt of Blakesburg, Karen Bischof of Middle Amana, Zelda Sherman and husband Dick of Ely, Phyllis Bjork of Williamsburg and Alice White and husband Lee of Ankeny.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, John; and a sister, Linda Roberts.

Raymond Ralph Heitman was born Sept. 16, 1933, in Sumner Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Alma Weisskopf Heitman. He received his education in the Iowa County schools and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1952. He married Alice Tompkins on Aug. 7, 1954, in First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. The couple farmed for many years in the area. He also sold seed corn for the Pfister Seed Co. Raymond was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo.
