Lloyd Edler, 92

Memorial service for Lloyd E. Edler, 92, Cedar Rapids, was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids.

The Rev. Dan Sanford officiated at the service. Military honors were conducted by the Iowa National Honors Guard.

Inurnment will be at a later date in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport.

Lloyd Earl Edler was born March 6, 1921, in Fairfield, the son of Peter and Nellie Edler. He attended the Fairfield area schools and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.

He married Mildred Berniece Forgie Dec. 27, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo.

The couple resided in the Amana area for several years. He was employed as a carpenter in the construction trade. Due to failing health, he had lived at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, for the last several years.

Edler is survived by one son, James, Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Kim, Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, in 1995; his parents; a daughter, Doris, in infancy, and a son, Richard.
