Funeral service for Mary E. Volz, 95, Amana, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. She died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Colonial Manor of Amana following a short illness.

The Rev. Matt German will officiate at the service.

Burial will be in Lenox Cemetery, rural Amana.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established.

Mary Elizabeth Volz was born Dec. 26, 1918, in rural Oxford, the daughter of Louis and Stella DeGood Kahler. She attended rural Iowa County schools.

She married Walter Volz Feb. 24, 1948, at the First United Methodist Church, Marengo.

The couple farmed for many years in Iowa County. In earlier years, she attended New Jerusalem Church, rural Norway.

Volz is survived by one daughter, Donna (Greg) Smith, Amana; three grandchildren, Stacey (John) Takes, Cascade; Marti (John) DeLay, Chicago, Ill., and Keith (Sarah) Smith, Collegeville, Pa.; six great-grandchildren, Riley and Robyn Takes and Kyle, Kaitlyn, Jeremiah and Anna Smith; one sister, Mildred Koenig, Walker; two brothers, Ivan Kahler, Williamsburg, and Donald Kahler, Oceanside, Calif., and two sisters-in-law, Esther Kahler, Portland, Ore., and Marguerite Kahler, Marengo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 2003; her parents and four brothers, Everett, Floyd and Howard and Leo in infancy.
