Sharon “Shari” Lea Pohren was born Jan. 4, 1943, in Williamsburg, the daughter of Robert and Lucille (Maas) Jones. She graduated from Solon High School in 1961.

She married L. Dean Pohren Feb. 17, 1979, at the First Baptist Church, Washington. They lived in Washington until moving to Osage in the fall of 1983 when he was appointed Mitchell County Assessor.

She was employed for 26 years at the Mitchell County Press News and was advertising sales manager. She was a very outgoing person and loved calling on her clients. Her motto was, “The worst that people can tell you is no when you are selling advertising. But if you don’t ask, they can’t even tell you no.”

She was an active member of Eden Presbyterian Church. She served as president of the Osage Chamber of Commerce on two separate occasions and along with Jon Witt was instrumental in starting the Mitchell County Town and Country Ag Breakfast in 2001.

She was a devoted wife and more than that, a special mother. She could take the littlest things and make a celebration out of them. She loved her family, friends and pets.

Pohren is survived by her husband, L. Dean Pohren, Osage; one son, Jason Pohren, Mason City; her mother, Lucille Jones, Marengo; one sister, Judy (Jake) Jacobs, Brandon, S.D.; one brother, Larry (Shirley) Jones, Prosperity, S.C., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1996.
