Marvin Eckholm, 85

Funeral service for Marvin “Pete” Eckholm, 85, Waterloo, was held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, Waterloo. He died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center from heart failure.

The Rev. Bill Quibell officiated at the service.

Musical selections included “I Can Only Imagine,” “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” “This Side of Heaven” and “You Raise Me Up.”

Military rites were by American Legion Post 138 and Waterloo VFW Post 1623.

Memorials may be made to Allen Hospice.

Marvin Eckholm was born Jan. 21, 1929, in Armstrong, the son of Harvey and Loretta (Mitchell) Eckholm. He attended Armstrong High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

He married Martha Angstrom Nov. 20, 1952, in Fairmont, Minn. She died April 5, 1989.

He married Beverly Keppler Dec. 18, 1994.

He worked for L.L. Pelling in Iowa City for many years. He then was employed at Aspro for 29 years, retiring as superintendent. He enjoyed hobby farming, hunting, fishing, gardening, canning and bird watching. He also liked wintering in Arizona with Beverly.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Eckholm is survived by his wife, Beverly, Waterloo; two sons, Gary (Nancy) Eckholm, Jesup, and Jeff (Lisa) Eckholm, Parnell; a stepson, Mark (Lori) Klepper, Cedar Falls; three daughters, Shelly (Dale) Kaplan, Belle Plaine; Regina (William) Montross, Millersburg, and DeEtta (Stephen) Morrow, Millersburg; two step-daughters, Roxanne Klepper, Waterloo, and Shannon Larson, Cedar Falls; a daughter-in-law, Deb Eckholm, Williamsburg; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Velma Weir, Emmetsburg, and Lavonne (Floyd) Blom, Algona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Eckholm; a grandson, Shane Eckholm; a great-granddaughter, Zoey Bestland, and two sisters, Sylvia Gentry and Marlene Latham.
