Glorene Klever, 84

Funeral service for Glorene F. Klever, 84, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

Burial was in the Victor Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo, or Essence of Life Hospice.

Glorene Faye Klever was born Jan. 8, 1930, in rural Victor, the daughter of Edward and Lena Berscheid Nowotny. She graduated from Victor High School in 1947 as valedictorian of her class.

She married George D. Weiss Oct. 31, 1948. The couple had three daughters and two sons. They lived on a farm east of Deep River, later moving to Victor to the house that George built. She loved flowers and had a huge flower garden. He died Sept. 21, 1994.

She married Lloyd Klever June 15, 1996, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple resided in Marengo. He died June 5, 2007.

She was an avid Hawkeye fan. She traveled to the bowl games and in later years, enjoyed the Iowa girls’ basketball games, holding season tickets for several years. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, travel and playing cards. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo, and the Ladies Aid. She also belonged to the Marengo American Legion Auxiliary and was a former member of the Victor American Legion Auxiliary.

Klever is survived by her daughters, Gloria (Steve) Leazer, Wilton; Gayle (Kenny) McCulley, Barnes City, and Glenda (Chuck) Campbell, Marengo; seven grandchildren, Sara (Marley) Ayres, Byron, Minn.; Laura (Jared) Jones, Wilton; Mandy (Chad) Dye, New Sharon; Bronson (Amy) McCulley, Sigourney; Cara (Neal) Jack, Victor; Melanie (Kris) Kempf, Victor, and Derek Campbell and friend Bonnie, Pinehurst, Idaho; 15 great-grandchildren, Caprice Dye, Kennedy Dye, Mason Dye, Kayla Jack, Hailey Jack, McKenzie Kempf, Alycen Kempt, Lily Schmidt, Bo Schmidt, Abyl McCulley, Emerie McCulley, Hunter Jones, Elizabeth Jones, Liam Ayres and Beckham Ayres; a brother-in-law, Verne (Phyllis) Weiss, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Paul and Gary, in infancy; one sister, Darlene Wagner, and two brothers, Melvin and Harold Nowotny.
