Dale Noyes, 90

Funeral service for Dale H. Noyes, 90, Marengo, formerly of rural Victor, was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. Diane Miller and Brother Doug Dauenbaugh officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Koszta Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials may be made to the Iowa County Historical Society or Lake Iowa Nature Center.

Dale Henry Noyes was born Jan. 21, 1923, in rural Victor, the son of Henry and Gladys Croft Noyes. He lived with his parents on the farm settled by his great-grandfather, Mason Ingraham. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1941.

He married Jane Furlong March 10, 1943, at the Methodist parsonage in Ladora. The couple had two sons, Dale Jr. and John. She died in 1994.

He married Shirley Gensley Bazyn Jan. 20, 1996. The couple lived on the family farm until May 2012, when they moved to Marengo.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from June 1944 to 1946. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was wounded during the Battle of Iwo Jima. He received the Purple Heart and other service medals. Upon his discharge, he returned to Iowa County and farmed until his retirment in 1985. He also worked in the parts department at Simmons Motor Company, Marengo, for many years.

He was very active in his community. He served on the Iowa County Board of Supervisors and the board of Iowa County Park, south of Ladora. He was a trustee for Honey Creek Township, a member of the Victor American Legion and was active with the Iowa County Historical Society. He was an original member of the Iowa County Conservation Board and was a promoter of the new Lake Iowa Nature Center.

Having lived in Iowa County his whole life, he knew most people in the area. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. Playing cards was a favorite pastime. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He and Shirley were members of the Good Sam Camping Club.

Noyes is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Dale Jr. (Mary Jo), Pekin, Ill., and John (Pam), Marengo; four granddaughters, Stephanie (Michael) Davis, Crestwood, Ky.; Jennifer (Greg) Larimore, LaGrange, Ky.; Lorna (Dave) Wilt, Peoria, Ill., and Carla Inman, Belle Plaine; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and three stepsons, Dan, Richard and Gary Bazyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jane,; one grandson, Charles Noyes, the son of John and Rosemary, and one sister, Netha Meyer.
