Ross York, 63

Funeral service for Ross A. York, 63, Ladora, was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at St. James Lutheran Church, Victor. He died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, in the company of his family and his pastor.

The Rev. Michael Kolesar officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Ladora Cemetery. Casket bearers were Dustin, Jerod, Brian, Chad, Josh, Seth and Ryan York. Honorary bearers were Jordan, Beau, Boston and Kyra York.

Smith Funeral Home, Victor, was in charge of arrangements.

Ross A. York was born Jan. 25, 1950, in Belle Plaine, the son of Edwin Dale and Lois Robinson York. He graduated from HLV High School in 1968 and served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War.

He married Betty Ann Koehn Aug. 16, 1969, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Victor. The couple lived in Ladora and he worked for Prince Agri Products in Ladora and later in Marion.

He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, barbecuing and salmon fishing in Wisconsin. He also enjoyed traveling to Hawaii with Betty, Royce and Magi for their 40th wedding anniversaries. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their many sporting events.

He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Victor, and the Victor American Legion.

York is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty York; his children, Craig (Tina) York, Ladora; Cheri (Joe) Moreno, Marengo, and Kevin (Nikki) York, Ladora; his grandchildren, Dustin (Brittany) York, Jerod, Jordan, Beau, Boston and Kyra York and Joey Moreno; his mother, Lois York, Belle Plaine; three brothers, Lee (Julie) York, Cedar Rapids; identical twin, Royce (Magi) York, Montour and Keith (Debbie) York, Victor.

He was preceded in death by his father and a granddaughter, Koral Nicole York.
