Thomas Gaffey, 70

Funeral services for Thomas F.
Gaffey, 70, Holbrook, were held at 10
a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at St. Michael's
Catholic Church, Holbrook. He died
July 14, 1995, in Mercy Hospital, Iowa
City, following a short term illness
with cancer.

The Rev. Richard Okumu officiated
the service.

Burial was in St. Michael's Catholic
Cemetery with military rites by Parnell
American Legion Post 369 and V. F. W.
Iburg Poulson Post 8797. Pallbearers
were Ron Malicky (sic.), Bill Wonrau, Tom
Jensen, Jim Gaffey Jr., Wayne Wassen
and Don Donohoe. Honorary pallbearers
were Sandy Deatsh, Paul Hannon,
Vince Malloy, Vicky Malloy, Joe
Black, Don Bush, Merle Spratt, John
Gaffey and John Donahue.

A rosary service was held at 7:30
p.m. Monday, July 17, at Uhlmann-
Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg.

Thomas Francis Gaffey was born
Aug. 6, 1924, the son of Francis and
Mina Donohoe Gaffey, in Holbrook.
He graduated from Parnell High School
and worked as a manger at the Red Top
Angus Farm, Libertyville, Ill., for nine
years. He returned to the Holbrook area
where he was a carpenter and farmer.
He served in the Army during World
War II as a Tech Sergeant from June
1943 until Feb. 1946.

He was a member of St. Michael's
Catholic Church, Holbrook; the
Knights of Columbus and the angus
association.

Gaffey is survived by his mother,
Mina Gaffey, Wellman; one son, Tim,
Belle Plaine; one daughter, Karen
Gaffey, Iowa City; two brothers,
James, Almond, Wis., and Merlyn,
Valley Falls, Kan.; two sisters,
Carmelita Wonrau, Luzerne, and Jean
Malichky, Riverside, and other rela-
tives.

He was preceded in death by his fa-
ther.
