Mary Elizabeth (Liz) O’Rourke was born November 29, 1918 at home in Holbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Ed and Mabel Rock Hannon. She graduated from Parnell High School and Mt. Mercy College with an A.A. Degree. She taught in a number of rural schools prior to her marriage. Liz was united in marriage to Michael O’Rourke May 1, 1947 in Holbrook. Liz was the secretary for the Williamsburg school system working at the Parnell location for 23 years retiring in 1993. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church , the St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Society and American Legion Auxiliary. Liz died Sunday evening, March 14, 2004 at her home after a sudden illness at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 14 days . She is survived by four sons: Patrick (Judy) O’Rourke of Austin, Texas, Larry O’Rourke of Parnell, Terry (Colette) O’Rourke of St. Louis, Missouri and Dan (Susie) O’Rourke of Williamsburg; two daughters: Betty (Kelly) Coleman of Whitsett, North Carolina and Susie O’Rourke of North Liberty; 9 Grandchildren and 2 Great grandchildren; a brother: Ed Hannon of Castro Valley, California. Liz is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers: Pete and Paul Hannon and a sister Catherine Hanson. Celebration of Life service will be Thursday, March 18, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell. Rev. David Hitch will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell from 3 to 8 P.M.. where a Rosary service will be held at 4:00 PM and a Prayer service will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg are caring for the services. Memorials are for Parnell Senior Dining Site and St. Joseph Cemetery in Parnell.
