MARENGO -- Calvin Delano Davis, 71, of 348 E. Main St., died Thursday, March 18, 2004, in his home following a long illness. There is no visitation or service. The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Louise, are three children, Dan Davis and wife Deb of Ringwood, Okla., Dixie Harden and husband Jack of Ladora and Diane Border and husband Steve of Victor; two stepchildren, Judy Christianson of Atlanta, Ga., and Tara Maxwell and husband Tait of Farmington, N.M.; two brothers, Marvin Davis and Lavern Davis, both of Ladora; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Ralph Davis; and a sister-in-law, Viola Davis.

Calvin was born Feb. 19, 1933, at his home in Ladora. He graduated from Ladora High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. Calvin was employed by Amana Refrigeration for 39 years, retiring in November 1994. On March 4, 1953, he married Beverly Shaull. They later divorced. From this union were born three children. He later married Louise Ballard on June 14, 1980.

Anyone who knew Calvin knew how much he loved life. If you knew him well, you knew how much he disliked funerals. There will be no service or visitation as per his wishes and his body will be cremated as per the arrangements Calvin made prior to his illness.

Calvin enjoyed his family, had a great sense of humor, loved motorcycle riding, dancing and long walks. Calvin will be greatly missed by his loving wife Louise, and his family.

Memorial donations may be given in Calvin's name to Hospice Amenity.

His family wishes that he only be remembered with a smile, for there is no greater testimonial to a person's life.
