MRS. ED. J. KENNEDY
DIES AT CEDAR RAPIDS

Mrs. Edward Kennedy died at her
home, 438 4th avenue SW Cedar Rap-
ids, Friday evening at 6:30, after an
illness of a few months duration.

Mrs. Kennedy's maiden name was
Elizabeth Gray, a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Thomas Gray, and she
was born at the old farm home west
of Holbrook on January 13, 1877.
She received her education at the
Boyle school, and was one of my
classmates.

On April 28, 1903, she became the
bride of Edward J. Kennedy at St.
Michael's church, Holbrook. Mr. and
Mrs. Kennedy resided on a farm in
this locality several years, and about
eleven years ago they moved to Ce-
dar Rapids.

The deceased leaves to mourn her
demise, the husband, three daughters,
and one son, as follows: Mrs. Harvey
Powell, Monica, and Raymond Ken-
nedy, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Ray-
mond Hartsook (sic.), Oakland, Calif. Al-
so two brothers, Matthew and D. W.
Gray of North English. Five of her
sisters and three brothers preceded
Mrs. Kennedy to the Great Beyond.

Her funeral was held at St. Pat-
rick's church, Cedar Rapids, at 9
o'clock Monday morning.

A Requiem High Mass was cele-
brated by Rev. Leo Dergo, who also
read the prayers for the deceased,
and delivered a grand sermon. Six
nephews of the deceased were pall-
bearers, and their names are as fol-
lows: F. J. Gaffey, John D. Gray,
Joseph Butler, Patrick Welsh (sic.), Giles
Kennedy and John J. Gray.

The interment was held in Mt. Cal-
very Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Those from a distance attending
the funeral were: P. J. Welsh (sic.),
Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph But-
ler, Des Moines,, Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Welsh (sic.), Burlington, Mr. and
Mrs.. Thomas Kelly, Mr. and Mrs.
Vincent Sullivan, Mr. and Mrs. F.
J. Black, and Mr. and Mrs. James
James (sic.) Belger, Iowa City.

There were also large delegations
present from Williamsburg, Parnell
North English, Kinross, and Hol-
brook.
