Gerald Carney, 84
Funeral services for Gerald T. Carney, 84, Williamsburg, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Williamsburg. He died Saturday Oct. 31, 1998, at his home following a short illness.
The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.
Burial was in St. Michael’s cemetery, Holbrook, with military rites by Iburg Poulson VFW Post 8797. Pallbearers were Robert Black, Ralph Garringer, Emmett Shannahan, James Garringer, Harlan Hagen and Jerry Walter.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Gerald Thomas Carney was born June 17, 1914 near Holbrook in York Township, Iowa County, the son of Edward and Margaret Newkirk Carney. He attended rural York school. He worked for the Williamsburg Creamery as a driver, then in 1946 he worked for the Williamsburg Lumber Store. He served in World War II on the 112th Signal Radio Intelligence Company from 1942 to 1946.
He married Lois P. Hinder July 31, 1954, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Carney is survived by his wife; one daughter, Phyllis Hubbell, and husband Albert, Parnell; two grandchildren, James Hubbell, Williamsburg, and Heidi Hubbell, Parnell, and a sister-in-law, Thelma Walter, and husband William, North English.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and an infant grandson.
