Funeral service for Kathleen L. “Kathy” Lucas, 53, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo. She died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.

Chaplain Nancy Johnson officiated at the service.

Burial was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, rural Fairfax.

A memorial fund has been established.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.klosterfuneralhome.com.

Kathleen L. Lucas was born Oct. 11, 1960, in Anamosa, the daughter of Walter and Norma Lea Sullivan Lucas. She attended Shellsburg schools, completing her high school education in Missouri.

She and Frank Vrba have been constant companions for over 35 years, celebrating their wedding anniversary on Feb. 14.

She was employed at Farmstead, Cedar Rapids, for over 10 years. She furthered her education and received her associate degree from Kirkwood. She then went to work for Alliant as a meter reader, advancing to receive her journeyman certification and then worked in tester and transformer repair.

Kathy loved the outdoors, gardening and animals. She enjoyed sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan. She was a superior photographer and always had her camera in hand. She delighted her family with photos of their events, which she never missed. She loved life, God and her family and was the glue that bound them together.

Lucas is survived by her husband, Frank Vrba, Marengo; one son, Robert Vrba (Michelle), Des Moines; one daughter, Bridget Werling, Marengo; four grandchildren, Chase and Emma Lea Werling and Sarah and Robert Vrba; five brothers, Steven Lucas (Joyce) Vinton; Robin Lucas (Marlene), Nevis, Minn.; Brian Lucas, LaCrosse, Wis.; David Anthony (Lucinda), Davenport, and George Lucas, Muscatine, and two sisters, Marlene Lucas, Bemidji, Minn., and Brenda Roshar (Ben), Center Point.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
