Viola Kasper, 88

Mass of Christian burial for Viola M. Kasper, 88, Riverside, was held Monday, Dec. 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Riverside. She died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Riverside.

Memorials may be made to Riverside Quick Responders and Lending Hands of Washington.

Beatty and Peterseim Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Viola M. Kasper was born April 11, 1925, in Riverside, the daughter of Clarence and Alma Simon Thomann. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1944. She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

She married Louis Kasper Feb. 26, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

The couple lived in the Riverside area all their married life. She enjoyed being a farm wife with her flowers and gardens.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a real joy to her. She was the secretary of the H-J Club and attended Lending Hands and enjoyed having coffee with friends.

Kasper is survived by five children and their spouses, Karen Grout, Marengo; Barbara (Mike) Carlson, Columbus Junction; Louise (Ron) Jones, Bellevue; Patricia (Bob) Hartsock, Columbus Junction, and Scott (Donna) Kasper, Riverside; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren with another expected soon; two sisters, Rita Stumpf, Riverside, and Annette (Jim) Shalla, Kalona, and one sister-in-law, Betty Thomann, Riverside.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1983; her parents; an infant sister, Rose; one brother, Joe Thomann, and two sons-in-law, Jerry O’Neil and Russell Grout.
