Margie Robinson, 87

Funeral service for Margie M. Robinson, 87, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo. She died Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. Matt German officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Margie M. Robinson was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Alta, the daughter of Otto and Agnes Miller Andersen. She graduated from Fairview High School as valedictorian in 1944. She attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and then nurses training at Broadlawns Polk County Hospital in Des Moines as part of the U.S. Nurse Cadet Corp, graduating in 1947. Following graduation, she worked at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls.

She married Cecil “Kenneth” Robinson Sept. 4, 1948, at the Baptist Church in Storm Lake. The couple made their home in Reinbeck. They relocated to Marengo in 1958.

She was employed at the Grundy Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center, and Marengo Memorial Hospital for many years, as a registered nurse and also as director of nursing. She encouraged many candy stripers to enter the healthcare field and was a promoter of the Lifeline program provided by the hospital. She retired in 1988.

She was a member of the Marengo Legion Auxiliary, the First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She was past president of the Reinbeck Legion Auxiliary and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also past president of the Marengo Hospital Auxiliary.

She loved her family and spent many wonderful hours following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their activities. She enjoyed her summer vacations at the Lake of the Ozarks. She liked to travel, quilt, do needlework and play cards.

She volunteered by delivering Meals on Wheels and as a teacher’s aide for the second grade class.

Robinson is survived by her sons, Dana (Ginger), St. Anne, Ill.; Bruce (Mitch), Belle Plaine, and Kim (April), Chapin, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Stephen Barton, Mount Vernon, Ill.; Trena Robinson Dodd, Belle Plaine; Randy Robinson, Belle Plaine; Renee Yeager, Newton, Pa.; Jay Robinson, Hoboken, N.J., and Alexandra Eno and Samantha Eno, both Chapin; six great-grandchildren, Avery Barton, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; Shaylee Dodd, Belle Plaine; Macy Dodd, Belle Plaine; Josephine Barton, Mount Vernon, Ill.; Brock Dodd, Belle Plaine, and Avery Yeager, Newtown, Pa.; two sisters, Vivian Waples (Carver) and Carlamae Fuller (Carl), both in California, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil “Kenneth,” in 2004; her parents; brothers, Quentin, Lennart, Marvin, Lester, Leslie, Clarence, Oswald, Arol, Kermit, Vincent and Gladwyn, and sisters, Severn Chivers, Viola Meseck and Asther Fischer.
