Janet Rose ColsonJanet Rose Colson, born Nov. 8, 1931, died Oct. 11, 2013.She grew up in Marengo, Iowa and attended Marengo High School, Ottumwa Heights College, and the University of Iowa.

She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. She married Leo Brachtenbach in Paris in 1958. They had four children: Marie, Mark, Michael and Matthew. The couple divorced in 1985.

She loved her children, her family, her friends, her dogs, and her country. She enjoyed reading books, travel, theater, flower gardens, French cooking, chocolate, and crossword puzzles.She is survived by her children, Marie Baughman, Colorado Springs, Colo., Mark Brachtenbach and wife Karen, Kansas City, Mo., Michael Brachtenbach and wife Stephanie, Olathe, Kan., and Matthew Brachtenbach, Omaha, Neb.; and her three grandchildren, Zachary Brachtenbach, Allison Brachtenbach and Gabrielle Brachtenbach, all of Olathe, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances [Hogan] and Louis Colson (Marengo, Iowa).

Janet’s body has been cremated. A memorial service and rosary was held Oct. 17 at Ridgeview Village, 11830 S. Sunset Dr., Olathe, Kan. Burial Mass will be at St. Patrick’s Church in Marengo in Spring 2014 and burial will follow in the Marengo Cemetery.

Janet Colson, 81

Mass of Christian burial for Janet Rose Colson, 81, Olathe, Kan., formerly of Iowa City and Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. She died Oct. 11, 2013. Per her wishes, her body was cremated.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.

Inurnment was in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements.

Colson is survived by her children, Marie Baughman, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mark (Karen) Brachtenbach, Kansas City, Mo.; Matthew Brachtenbach, Kansas City, Mo., and Michael (Stephanie) Brachtenbach, and three grandchildren, Zachary, Allison and Gabrielle Brachtenbach, Olathe, Kan.; one sister, Marylou (Jack) Tripolino, Waverly, and one brother, John F. (Nancy) Colson, Brookings, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Frances Colson, who resided in Marengo.
