Graveside service for Wallace C. Christen, 78, Amana, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Amana Cemetery. He died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at his home.

Church elder Betsy Momany officiated at the service.

Memorials may be made to the Amana Church Society.

Wallace Charles Christen was born Feb. 20, 1935, in Amana, the son of Heini and Marie Salzbrenner Christen. He graduated from Amana High School, Amana, and Coe College, Cedar Rapids. He received his master’s degree in sociology from the University of Illinois, Champaign, and his doctorate in humanistic psychology from Greenwich University in Indiana.

He married Joyce Tuma in September of 1968. The couple later divorced.

He was a sociology professor at several universities and colleges throughout the United States. He also was a counselor, employed by the prison system in the United States. He was a lifelong resident of Amana and a member of the Amana Church.

Christen is survived by one son, Jon (Heather) Christen, Bloomington, Minn., and a grandson, William Benjamin Christen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
