Robert Moffit, 75

Robert E. Moffit, 75, North English, died Oct. 7, 2013, at Mercy Hospital Iowa City’s hospice unit after a long battle with heart and cancer.

Robert Eugene Moffit was born Aug. 20, 1938, in Green Valley, east of North English, the son of Wayne and Martha Denison Moffit. He lived all of his life in Green Valley until moving to North English in 1994.

He married Gay Hedrick Dec. 29, 1956, in North English. To this union, three daughters were born.

He was a farmer, truck driver and he had his horses. One of his favorite things to do was to ride horses. He rode from West Chester to Fort Madison for more than 20 years. He rode on the River City Roundup from Indianola to Council Bluffs for five years. In 2005, he and his grandson Trent rode in the caravan from Fairfield to Des Moines to the state fair.

Moffit is survived by his wife, Gay, North English; three daughters, Debbie (Clay) Toler, Glenn Allen, Va.; Sherrie (Ron) Maschmann, Millersburg, and Kristi Hargis, Council Bluff; grandchildren, Carrie Knipfer and friend Brett Lambert, Steven Knipfer, Ryan (Tiffany) Knipfer, Megan Forrest, Trenton Forrest, Danielle Weldon, Jeannie Hargis and fiance Gene Morgan, Jessica (Travis) O’Dell, Janna Hargis and friend Jake Gentile, Rhonda (Jason) Waters, Renee Maschmann, Michelle (Kendall) Koehn and his two German exchange student granddaughters, Melina Helbach and Xazal Erdogan, and 11 great-grandchildren, Kassie Knipfer, Lane, Luke and Tierney Knipfer, Ashton and Spencer Knipfer, Cayden Forrest, Nolan Waters, Brandon, Kyle and Rachel Koehn. They were all his pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, mother- and father-in-law and a son-in-law.
