Funeral Mass for Colleen M. Weldon, 84, Parnell, was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English. She died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at the English Valley Care Center, North English.
The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.
Organist was Catherine Shaull and vocalists were Bill and Rita McDonald, Sandra Ficken and Gus Steffen. Musical selections included “Amazing Grace” and “Go In Love.”
Private family burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Parnell. Pall bearers were Greg Weldon, Jeff Weldon, Bill Weldon, Paul Weldon, Jim Weldon, Paul Hanson and Joan Weldon Sieren.

Colleen Mary Weldon was born May 20, 1929, in Dubuque, and was adopted by George and Genevieve Soukup, Iowa City, at the age of 4. She graduated from Parnell High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. Prior to her marriage, she taught at rural schools.
She married John Francis Weldon Nov. 8, 1950, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Parnell. While raising their children, she also found time to work at the Weldon Oil Station in Parnell, Holden Seed Company, Williamsburg, and in the 1970s served as a site manager for the HACAP Senior Dining program in Parnell until retiring in 2001.
They lived in Parnell until moving to the farm south of town in 1959. She remained on the farm after his death in 1996 until moving to the English Valley Care Center, North English, in 2010.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Parnell, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Parnell.
She enjoyed traveling, going to casinos, playing poker and shopping and she will be remembered for her great sense of humor.
Weldon is survived by five children, Stephen and Linda Weldon, Slater; Marie Weldon, San Antonio, Texas; Mark and Karla Weldon, Edgemont, S.D.; Rose Weldon, Seal Beach, Calif., and Matt Weldon and Greg Bergford, San Francisco, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Bart Weldon, August Steffen, Mackenzie Steffen, Mallory Steffen, Faith Steffen, Travis Weldon, Tara Kiser, Katie Brown, Ellen Goettsch, Neil Goettsch; three great-grandchildren Brayden Weldon, Jayla Steffen and Ava Weldon; one brother-in-law, Clement and Audrey Weldon, North English, and one sister-in-law, Rita Murphy, Williamsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and an infant daughter, Barbara Ellen.
