Funeral service for Mark L. McGivern, 101, Waterloo, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at St. Edward Catholic Church. He died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo.
Memorials may be made to St. Edward Catholic Church.

Mark L. McGivern was born Jan. 15, 1912, in Marengo, the son of Thomas P. and Mary Ellen Flanagan McGivern.
He married Melba H. Gahring Dec. 25, 1940, at St. Patrick Church, Marengo. He enlisted in World War II and served from 1942 to 1945 in the 36th Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) in the South Pacific. He was hired at John Deere in November of 1940 and worked there for 36 years, retiring in 1976.
McGivern is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. McGivern and Randal K. Robinson, Waterloo, and a grandson, Brian K. and Reanne Robinson, Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Amy Gode, Ethel Flynn, Florence Nutting and Helen McGivern, and three brothers, Thomas, Fergus and Father Carroll McGivern.
