Funeral service for Murray H. Longfellow Jr., 76, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 26, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

The Rev. Matt German officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Murray Harlen Longfellow Jr. was born April 17, 1937, in Iowa City, the son of Murray Harlen and Grace VanVelkenburg Longfellow. He attended Edgewood School, Cedar Rapids, and the Keller schools and Martinsville High School in Missouri. He served his country with the U.S. Army Reserves, being honorably discharged in 1962.

He married Charlotte Jean Kasak Oct. 29, 1960, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. He farmed in Linn and Benton counties until 1981, when he went to work at the printing plant in Marengo until retiring in 2006.

He enjoyed fishing, camping and woodworking. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family and his dog Chu Chu.

Longfellow is survived by his wife, Charlotte; two sons, Robert, Cedar Rapids, and William and Lea, Alburnett; four grandchildren, Andrew Longfellow, with the U.S. Navy in Japan; Gregory and Stephanie Longfellow, Cedar Rapids, and Sarah and Rachel Longfellow, Alburnett, and two sisters Joyce Stewart, Vinton, and Mary and Bernie Cejka, Hiawatha.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters in infancy, Charlotte Evelyn and Grace Delores, and one brother, Edward L., in 2008.
