Janice Meier, 79

Funeral service for Janice I. Meier, 79, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. Andrew Gray officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Janice Irene Meier was born Nov. 9, 1933, in Rock Island, Ill., the daughter of Joseph and Rhoda Jessen Bruckman. She graduated from Calamus High School in 1951.

She married Allan Alfred August Meier Sept. 26, 1953, at Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus. They resided in Dixon until 1959, when they moved to Marengo. She was a homemaker and mother and also worked outside the home at different times. She worked at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1951 to 1953, and held several retail jobs at Younkers, VonMaur, Carters and OshKosh.

Her special joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was an avid Cubs and Hawkeyes fan. She played bridge with several clubs over the years. Her one special treat for the last several years was to go to the Tama casino and play the slot machines.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo, and the Marengo Legion Auxiliary.

Meier is survived by three sons, Steven and Donna and Greg and Pam, all Marengo, and Scott and Beth, Maryland Heights, Mo.; one daughter, Julie Storck, Marengo; 12 grandchildren, Allison and Josh Kittelson, VanCouver, Wash. Marcy and Dale DeMeulenaere, Marengo; Daniel and Mallory Meier, Marengo; Chase Meier, Marengo; Emily Meier and Justin, Williamsburg; Adam Meier, Marengo; Jordan, Travis and Taylor Storck, Marengo, and Madeline, Evan and Joseph Meier, Maryland Heights; eight great-grandchildren, Bodin, Jack, Gunnar and Ryder Kittelson, Kadynce, Anna and Gavin DeMeulenaere and Kinslee Meier; one sister-in-law, Janice M. Meier, Marengo; brothers-in-law, Dennis and Glenda Meier, Cedar Rapids; Cliff Danielson, East Moline, Ill, and Gene Weih, Tipton, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 2002; her parents; one son, David, 1991; two brothers, Robert and Richard Bruckman; one sister, Marilyn Morehead, and several sisters- and brothers-in-law.
