Funeral service for Marilyn Neuhaus, 80, Victor, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Victor. She died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, with her family by her side.

The Rev. Nicholas Huelsman officiated at the service. Organist was Marna Mohr.

Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery, rural Victor. Casket bearers were her great-nephews, Aric Chvala, Kyle Chvala, Alan Mohr and R.A. Neuhaus and special friends Paul Timm and Mervin Jack. Honorary casket bearers were her great-nephews and great-nieces, Alisa Smith, Nathan Slykhuis, Scott Slykhuis, Mindy Henderson, Stacy Montross, Allison Madren and Travis Neuhaus.

Smith Funeral Home, Victor, was in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Neuhaus was born May 24, 1932, near Victor, the daughter of Otto and Edith Koehn Neuhaus. She was homeschooled and made her home in the Victor area all of her life. She was the Wednesday school teacher at St. John’s Lutheran Church for 13 years and also taught piano lessons for over 30 years.

She enjoyed playing card games and was a regular player of Skipbo later in her life. She also enjoyed handcrafts, selling greeting cards and hosting an annual winter party where she sold her greeting cards.

She enjoyed her daily visits to the senior center in Victor, where she enjoyed socializing with her friends and playing bingo and dominoes.

Neuhaus is survived by her sister-in-law, Gloria Neuhaus, Victor; three nieces, Margaret Crockett, Guernsey; Marna and Barry Mohr, Ladora, and Marcella and Mark Chvala, Victor; one nephew, Mark and Kim Neuhaus, Cedar Rapids; 11 great-nieces and great-nephews, 33 great-great-nieces and -nephews and two great-great-great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Erna Neuhaus, and one brother, Milferd Neuhaus.
