Funeral service for Kenneth D. Morrison, 87, Bennington, Neb., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, North English, with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. He died on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16, 2013, at his home.

The Rev. Michelle Williamson will officiate at the service.

Burial with military rites will be in the Sorden Cemetery near Webster.

A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society.

Kenneth Dale Morrison was born Jan. 29, 1926, in South English, the son of Ellis and Mabel Hart Morrison. He grew up in the Keswick community and graduated from Keswick High School in 1943.

He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, completing 35 missions in the European Theater. After being discharged, he attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1949.

He married Norma Higgins Dec. 20, 1947, at the United Methodist Church, Keswick. His career started in 1949 with Hygrade Food Products Corporation, Olin. From there he was transferred to Chicago and ultimately to Detroit, where he retired after 40 years with the company. Hygrade Food was acquired by Sara Lee Corporation during his final years with the company.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Temple, Texas, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He also served for many years as a member of the American Legion.

Morrison is survived by his wife, Norma Morrison, Omaha, Neb.; his children, Gary Morrison, Royal Oak, Mich.; Nancy Houck and son-in-law Brad Houck, Omaha; four grandchildren, Daniel and Lindsay Morrison and Justin and Kristin Houck; a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Morrison; one brother, Max Morrison, Indianola, and one sister, Beverly Montross, Millersburg.
