Florence Hayes, 65

Memorial service for Florence J. Hayes, 65, Belle Plaine, was held Saturday, June 1, at the Hrabak Funeral Home. She died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness.

The Rev. Charles Johnson officiated at the service. Organist was Jane Hrabak.

Honorary pallbearers were Spencer Yilek, Jeff Stephenson, Tom Wilson, Davis Foughty, Scott Foughty, Duane Kruse, Madison Yilek, Payton Yilek and Erika Foughty.

Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine Parks and Recreation, the Belle Plaine football cheer squad or the Iowa Donor Network.

Florence June Hayes was born July 24, 1947, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Ernest and Wilma Vinall Wilson. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1965 and went to beauty school in Cedar Rapids.

She married John Hayes in 1968. The couple were married for 42 years, until his death in 2010.

She worked for the Belle Plaine Community Schools for about 30 years and did other jobs in the community. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Her hobbies included quilting, playing cards, “Book Club” with her dear friends, gardening, cooking and her grandchildren. She was a community volunteer and spent time enjoying the company of her mother. She was devoted to her dog and companion, Zoey.

Her life was full of fun and friends. She was so loved and will be forever missed.

Hayes is survived by her daughters, Johnette Hayes and Jeff Stephenson, Belle Plaine, and Alison and Scott Foughty, Des Moines; her mother, Wilma Wilson, Belle Plaine; her grandchildren, Madison, Payton and Spencer Yilek, Davis and Erika Foughty; one brother, Tom and Diane Wilson, Marengo, and their daughter, Ashley.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father.
