Dwayne Jahlas, 70

Funeral service for Dwayne N. Jahlas, 70, Deep River, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Victor. He died peacefully Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the English Valley Care Center, North English.

The Rev. Nickolas Huelsman officiated at the service.

Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery.

Smith Funeral Home, Victor, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be sent in care of Smith Funeral Home at P.O. Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347.

Dwayne Norman Jahlas was born April 4, 1943, in Vinton, the son of William Henry and Ruth Mae (Hessenius) Jahlas. He was raised on the family farm near Deep River where he assisted his family with farming.

He enjoyed visiting with his family and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones.

He will be missed by his family, friends and caregivers at the English Valley Care Center.

Jahlas is survived by his mother, Ruth Jahlas, Deep River; siblings, Edwin and Connie Jahlas, Deep River; Patricia and Walter Van Waus, Worthington, Minn., and John and Karen Jahlas, Cedar Rapids; cousin, Dr. Rodney and Deb Wachter, Adams, Tenn.; six nieces, one nephew and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.
