Funeral Mass for Lloyd A. Pilkington, 85, North English, was held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English. He died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Mercy Hospice House.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Armah Cemetery, rural North English.

Memorials may be made for Dollars for Scholars and Mercy Hospice.

Lloyd A. Pilkington was born June 14, 1928, near What Cheer, the son of Carl and Cedella Middleton Pilkington. He graduated from Thornburg High School in 1947. He farmed and lived at his grandfather’s farm for 11 years and since then, had lived at his current residence north of North English.

He married Frances Van Dee April 7, 1948, at Immaculate Conception Church, Armah. In addition to farming, he worked at Carder Roller Mills for four years and at Amana Refrigeration for eight years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Farm Bureau since 1950 and was an avid Cubs and Iowa fan. He had a great love for attending his family’s activities and ball games.

Pilkington is survived by his wife, Frances, North English; two sons, Gary and Betsy Pilkington, North English, and Randy and Patrice Pilkington, Waterloo; one daughter, Ronda and Dave Heck, Marengo; seven grandchildren, Anne and Brad Montana, John Pilkington, Mary Pilkington, Hayley and Cory Yearian, Sonya and Danny Maas, Wesley and Sarah Pilkington and Abigail Pilkington, and six great-grandchildren, Bryce, Jenna, Jordyn, Colton and Dakota Yearian and Leighton Maas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Norma Hedge.
