Harold Lehn, 77

Funeral Mass for Harold J. Lehn, 77, Parnell, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. He died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service. Vocalists were Bill and Rita McDonald. Lector was Jim Possehl. Servers were Cavin and Vic Malloy.
Eucharistic minister was Bob Thurman.

Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Williamsburg. Pall bearers were Pat Spratt, Grant Petree, Ryan Jones, Tom Spratt, Matt Donohoe and Steve Ahrens. Honorary pall bearers were Jack and Marilyn Johnson, Larry and Carlene Petree, Harold and Carol Kuddes, Howard Huedepohl, Bud South, Randy Bral and John Lower.

Memorials may be made to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Harold Joseph Lehn was born Dec. 30, 1935, in Holbrook, the son of Edward and Verona (Schell) Lehn. He graduated from Parnell High School and served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957.

He married Erlene Chrisman April 11, 1959, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Holbrook. The couple lived and farmed in the Holbrook area.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Holbrook, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. He was a lifelong farmer and a NC+ seed salesman for many years. In his younger years he enjoyed participating in horse shows and tractor pulls. He enjoyed camping and music. He took pride in his vehicles and farm equipment and even waxed his tractors. His home, yard and the land he worked were always well kept and attended to.

Lehn is survived by his children, Deb and Bob Thurman, Waterloo; Bob Lehn, Parnell; Julie Lehn, Phoenix, Ariz., and Amy Lehn, Williamsburg; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Schropp, Jerry Thurman, Ashley Lehn, Leah Schropp, Ryan Thurman, Ethan Lehn and Cole Lehn, and four sisters, Norma Fischer, Tell City, Ind.; Marietta Dermody, Williamsburg; Dorothy Reader, Mt. Home, Ark., and Alice Tritle, Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his wife, in 2011; his parents; one granddaughter, Christina Thurman, and two sisters, Helen Petree and Viola Werner.
