Robert Davis, 81

Funeral Mass for Robert C. Davis, 81, Williamsburg, formerly of Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. He died Friday, May 17, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.
The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.

Burial with military honors was in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo.

A memorial fund has been established.

Robert C. Davis was born Feb. 19, 1932, in Ladora, the son of Thomas and Mabel Hocker Davis. He attended the Lincoln Township School and graduated from Victor High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean Conflict.

He married Genevieve McGarry July 26, 1952, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. He farmed, then owned and operated the Marengo Locker. He also owned and operated Davis Plumbing and Heating. Later, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, while continuing to keep his hand in farming his whole life. He was also a volunteer firefighter.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo; the Knights of Columbus; Marengo American Legion Post 76 and the Williamsburg VFW. He was past president of the Marengo Golf Club and enjoyed playing golf with his family and friends. He was also a member of the Ladora Saddle Club.

He liked to play cards and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons. The couple enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and 11 countries and were snowbirds in Arizona and Texas for 18 years.

Davis is survived by his wife, Genevieve; his children, Mary and Ed Hadenfeldt, Solon; Bill and Margaret, Marengo, and Tom and Bridget, Edina, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Adam and Jenny Hadenfeldt, Aaron Hadenfeldt, Augie Hadenfeldt, Tyler Davis, Sonya and Bob Swift, Anthony Davis and Neil Davis; one great-grandson, Mark Hadenfeldt; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren and one brother, Larry and Sharon Davis, Ladora.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Greta Rader.
