Orville Bahr, 73

Funeral service for Orville D. Bahr, 73, Swisher, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church,Walford. He died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at his home following a brief illness.

The Rev. Mike Townsley officiated at the service.

Burial was in Hala Cemetery, rural Walford, with military honors.

A memorial fund has been established.

Orville Dale Bahr was born July 17, 1939, in Marengo, the only son of Dale and Irene Kopf Bahr. He attended the Iowa County schools and Marengo High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years.

He and Grace Patricia Koch were married March 23, 1961, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead.

He was employed as a sheet metal machinist for 36 years with Steel Products Company, Cedar Rapids.

He was a member of VFW Post 788, Cedar Rapids, and Clover Ridge United Methodist Church, Walford. In earlier years, he was a Scout master.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and mushroom hunting. He liked playing his DS and bird watching.He especially enjoyed his time with his family and friends.

Bahr is survived by his wife, Grace “Pat”; two sons, Ricky and Karen, Marengo, and Kevin Bahr and Sherri Gillick, Swisher; one daughter, Vicki Bahr, Swisher; one daughter-in-law, Michelle Bahr, Swisher, and six grandchildren, Kenneth Bahr and April DeFauw, Cedar Rapids; Andrew and Brandi Bahr, Cedar Rapids; Christian Bahr, Isaac Bahr and Gracie Lynn Bahr, all Swisher, and Stephanie Gillick, Belle Plaine, and one great-grandchild, Sophia Bahr, Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Randy, in 2012.
