Darrell Wallace, 74

Funeral Mass for Darrell Wallace, 74, North Liberty, formerly of Oxford, was held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oxford. He died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.

The Rev Edmond Dunn officiated at the service.

Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Cosgrove.

A memorial fund has been established.

Darrell Wallace was born Feb. 18, 1939, in Burlington, Kan., the son of Walter and Lenora Talley Wallace. The family lived in Burlington utnil 1945, when they moved to the North English and Kinross area. He graduated from North English High School.

He married Eileen Volk Sept. 25, 1965, at St. Peter’s Church, Cosgrove.

He was the transportation and maintenance director for the Clear Creek Amana School District for many years, retiring in 2001. From 1977 to 1999, he drove a school bus for both Clear Creek Amana and Regina schools.

His memberships included St. Mary’s Church, Oxford; past president of the Oxford Optimists and the Clear Creek Amana Booster Club. He also served as a 4-H leader. He enjoyed woodworking and baking cookies and bread. Most important to him was his family, especially his grandchildren. He cherished the time spent attending his grandchildren’s events.

Wallace is survived by his loving wife, Eileen; their four sons, Jeff Wallace and Dawn Morrissey, Iowa City; Daniel and Kristine Wallace, Denver, Colo.; Robert Wallace, Atlantic Beach, Fla., and Steven and Jessica Wallace, North Liberty; five grandchildren, Brady, Kennedy, Madigan, Kenna and Jacquelyn; his brother, Kenneth and Linda Wallace, Montezuma, and one sister, Donna Loux, Des Moines; two sisters-in-law, Marge Simpson and Virginia and Tom Travis, and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Delores Rogers, and his in-laws, Bernard and Irene Volk.
